There Has to be a Better Way
Brian, and Valerie McCarthy
Avid pickleball players and Sarasota residents Brian & Valerie McCarthy, finally said ENOUGH to those all too common, Florida afternoon thunderstorms, ruining their pickleball games. Some of the best pickleball in the country is right here in beautiful Southwest Florida.
Unfortunately, so is the intense sun, heat, and humidity, making play less comfortable, hence less fun. Brian & Valerie have made a lifelong career in business entrepreneurship. So while they were sitting around in the rain at 3:00 pm, missing out on good pickleball play with their friends, they looked at one another and said; "There has to be another way, a BETTER way! - We can do this!"...
So they created a venture with a fresh twist on the optimal indoor pickleball experience for Sarasota, Florida! A fun, World Class pickleball facility which is everything active Sarasota residents love about the Florida lifestyle, without its inconveniences.
An atmosphere for the whole family. Pickleball, Good Eats, Community and Fun! Sarasota residents love great food, the fun & fit lifestyle and positives vibes. The Pickleball Club of Sarasota is a healthy atmosphere for the whole family. The atmosphere at The Pickleball Club of Sarasota will be both organic and energizing, with many active and healthy opportunities to enhance the pickleball lifestyle.
Loyd Robbins, of Harry Robbins Realty, called Brian and said we can find a lot that can accommodate a 30,000 SF free span building with 12 indoor pickleball courts. A local team was quickly assembled of Southern Cross Contracting and Jesse Balaity Property Enhancement, to develop the concept. In addition to pickleball courts, we need a pro shop, for equipment needs and advice, and a barista/juice bar, for after game socializing and refreshments. Of course, add restrooms and showers.
This prospective multi-million-dollar facility is one more project in Brian’s real estate career, in which he has developed more than ½ billion dollars of commercial real estate. Valerie is in her element too. Valerie has been involved in physical fitness her entire career, with over 20 years’ experience in the fitness industry. She held numerous positions in the YMCA, the last as Executive Director of a 20,000 sq. ft. YMCA facility in Palo Alto, California. Valerie also founded and operated FLEX FITNESS, a successful fitness facility in Sausalito, California for nearly a decade. Valerie holds a BS and MS in Exercise Physiology from Kent State University.

What is pickleball?
Pickleball is America’s fastest-growing sport. Currently, 85 new pickleball facilities are opening each week in the US. Pickleball invented over 50 years ago, recently exploded in popularity as America's aging and retiring baby-boomer cohort needed an active competitive sport that had lower physical demands compared to tennis, squash, and racquetball. Pickleball is played on a smaller version of a tennis court, requiring less running, overall strength, and less strain on aging joints. Over 75% of the current players are baby-boomers and retirees; however, the sport is growing rapidly among younger segments of the population. The sport is most often played as doubles, with four players on the court at a time.
